Croton megalocarpus, widely known by its Kikuyu name Musine or Mukinduri, is one of the most beloved and widely planted indigenous trees in Kenya's central highlands. It is a fast-growing, medium-to-large tree that develops a distinctive silver-grey, fluted trunk and a spreading canopy of silver-green leaves. The abundant nutty seeds produced in large quantities are a premium, high-energy food source for birds, squirrels, and other wildlife. Its roots are highly effective at preventing soil erosion on steep slopes. A valuable, multi-purpose tree for any Kenyan landscape.
