Bishop Wood (Bischofia javanica) is a large, fast-growing, semi-deciduous tree with attractive, glossy trifoliate leaves that emerge with a warm bronze-red flush before maturing to deep green. It grows rapidly and forms a broad, dense, spreading canopy that provides excellent deep shade — ideal for parks, large gardens, car parks, and street planting. In the dry season it produces small, round berries that turn red to black and are eagerly sought by birds and fruit bats. It is tolerant of a wide range of soils and is well-adapted to the Kenyan highland climate.
