Prunus Africana (African Cherry / Pygeum)

Prunus africana, known as African Cherry or Pygeum, is a highly endangered but incredibly valuable indigenous tree of Kenya's highland forests. Its bark extract is globally traded as a pharmaceutical ingredient used in treatments for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), making it one of Africa's most commercially significant medicinal trees. As a landscape tree, it is a beautiful, large evergreen with glossy, dark-green leaves, a distinctive red-brown bark, and fragrant white flowers that attract pollinators. Planting it is both a landscaping investment and a meaningful conservation act for one of Kenya's most threatened species.
