Green Phormium (New Zealand Flax)

Green Phormium (Phormium tenax), the New Zealand Flax, is a bold, dramatic, architectural plant forming large clumps of tough, sword-shaped, upright leaves that can reach impressive heights. The classic green form has rich, mid-green, strap-like leaves with orange-red midribs, and in summer produces tall, architectural flower spikes with tubular red flowers attractive to birds. It is extremely hardy, tolerating drought, coastal wind, and a wide range of soils once established. An outstanding structural plant for creating strong, tropical focal points and dramatic textural contrasts in mixed borders and large containers.
