The Whistling Pine (Casuarina equisetifolia), also known as the Coastal She-Oak or Horsetail Tree, is a tall, fast-growing, graceful tree with fine, drooping, needle-like branchlets that produce a haunting, distinctive whistling or sighing sound when the wind passes through them. It is one of the most effective and widely used coastal windbreak and erosion control trees in East Africa, with exceptional salt tolerance and the ability to fix nitrogen through root nodules. Its elegant, wispy, pine-like silhouette adds a distinctive, airy texture to large landscapes, farms, and coastal properties.
