Hamelia patens (Firebush / Hummingbird Bush)

Hamelia patens, the Firebush or Hummingbird Bush, is a fast-growing, vigorous tropical shrub that produces a non-stop abundance of small, tubular, bright orange-red flowers throughout the warm months — a magnet for sunbirds, hummingbirds (where present), and butterflies. Its foliage is attractive too, with olive-green leaves that carry reddish stems and veining. It is highly heat-tolerant and adaptable to a wide range of soils.
